NDBL is the first Development Bank in Nepal, where the  most leading development bank of India, Industrial Development Bank of India has joined hands for equity participation and to provide technical services.
NDBL and IDBI signed the Subscription and Service Agreement on July 7th 2003. IDBI has subscribed 10% of the equity shares of NDBL.
Since its inception, NDBL has been playing a crucial role as the financial catalyst of industrial development.
NDBL pioneered in project financing aggressively with the ideal objective of creating world class infrastructure and long term productive assets for sustained economic development of the country when other banks were concentrating more on commercial transactions with the prime motto of earning profit.
NDBL's efforts got international recognition when it won ADFIAP Development Award - 2004   for it's significant contribution to the Nepal's infrastructure development.
The Bank pursued recovery & settlement of dues on a war - footing basis. As on Mid - July 2006 non - performing assets (NPA) has remarkably been reduced to 10%.
With the adoption of a more stringent policy on provisions for doubtful debts as well as reduction of NPAs to the level of less than 10%, the Bank has now a clean balance sheet with quality loan portfolio.
The Bank has gone ahead with futuristic technology driven banking in mind and introduced many new areas of services in the bank like
VISA Electron Debit Card.
ATMs in two strategic locations (one in Kathmandu and another in Pokhara).
Western Union Money Transfer (Remittance Payment Service).
Foreign Exchange Buying & Selling Business.
Anywhere Banking System (ABBS).
The Bank has already issued 1:1 right shares and allotment is in the process of completion to increase its paid up capital from Rs. 160 million at present to Rs. 320 million by F.Y. 2006-07.
In the forth coming years the Bank has planned to make giant strides in various performance parameters, specifically to increase earning assets (quality loan portfolio), retail business and fee-based income.
